Lydia Biri Nasimiyu is a dedicated researcher, lecturer, and conservation GIS specialist with a passion for environmental sustainability and biodiversity protection. With a rich background in geospatial technology, Lydia has contributed to numerous projects focusing on the use of GIS, remote sensing, and AI to monitor and protect natural resources. Her work spans from conducting detailed spatial analyses using drone and satellite imagery to creating conservation strategies that incorporate cutting-edge technology.
Currently a doctoral researcher at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Lydia also serves as a tutorial fellow at The Technical University of Kenya. In these roles, she combines her academic pursuits with her professional expertise, teaching courses in GIS, remote sensing, drones, and sustainability. Lydia has also worked with various conservation and consulting organizations, including esri Eastern Africa , Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust and Nature Kenya , where she applied her skills in environmental awareness, ecosystem management, and geospatial technology to support conservation initiatives across Africa.
With a Master’s degree in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation from the University of Twente , Lydia is deeply committed to using her knowledge and skills to drive sustainable change. She is passionate about mentoring young scientists and advocating for data-driven conservation strategies that protect vulnerable ecosystems, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and biodiverse world.
