Tiya Kavrakova
About:
Tiya Kavrakova has a lifelong connection to nature, reflected in her academic and professional journey spanning ecology, biotech, and bioscience entrepreneurship. Her BSc thesis explored regenerative agriculture, while her MSc thesis at University College London (UCL) focused on alternative proteins and their commercialization. During her studies, she championed a curriculum exception, enrolling in "Regenerative Economy & Ecology," a course taught by Robert Costanza, a pioneer in ecological economics.
Tiya has gained hands-on experience in conservation and biodiversity through field internships in reef biodiversity research and volunteering efforts, such as sea turtle nest protection and avian rescue. These experiences sharpened her awareness of how human activities impact ecosystems. Currently, she leads sustainable growth and product development at a biomimetic, zero-waste desalination and beverage scale-up, while aspiring to advance global regenerative initiatives.
Passionate about biodiversity and climate-tech innovation, Tiya has actively immersed herself in this ecosystem. She has attended and volunteered at leading summits like ChangeNOW and Hello Tomorrow, participated in numerous biodiversity and sustainability seminars, and engaged in nearly every sustainability-focused event in London. Her efforts include mapping the global bioinnovation landscape, curating a list of sustainability-oriented venture capitalists, and fostering connections in the biodiversity and Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) space.
Tiya maintains a sharp focus on evolving regulatory frameworks, including TNFD, CSRD, ISSB, and pilot initiatives from Gold Standard and Verra for NbS. Her comprehensive approach integrates the scientific, business, and policy dimensions of sustainability, driven by a commitment to advancing regenerative solutions critical to the planet’s survival.
